O IMPACTO DOS FATORES PSICOLÓGICOS NO PORTE E MANUSEIO DE ARMAS DE FOGO NO CONTEXTO POLICIAL:
UMA REVISÃO DA LITERATURA

Resumo: Este estudo tem por objetivo compreender os aspectos psicológicos e fatores de risco envolvidos na capacidade de portar e utilizar armas fogo no contexto policial. Para tanto, foi realizada uma revisão narrativa da literatura. O manuseio de arma de fogo consiste numa habilidade que pode ser aprimorada por meio de treinamento. No entanto, diversos fatores ambientais, organizacionais e individuais afetam a capacidade de lidar com armas, impactando o desempenho desta competência ao longo da carreira do policial. Do ponto de vista psicológico, uma série de características cognitivas e emocionais são consideradas relevantes para um uso seguro de armas de fogo. No entanto, é fundamental reconhecer outros fatores que estão associados a riscos e podem ensejar um impacto pernicioso na utilização de uma arma. Evidenciou-se que aspectos psicológicos vinculados às funções executivas, às emoções, ao estresse e à saúde mental estão fortemente relacionados ao desempenho com armas, além das habilidades técnicas adquiridas em treinamento. O transtorno mental sobressaiu-se como um dos fatores de risco mais importantes que pode suscitar desfechos negativos com arma de fogo. Destacou-se a importância de que organizações policiais promovam medidas permanentes de prevenção que incluam o suporte organizacional, a avaliação psicológica e a atenção à saúde mental, visando ao bem-estar e à saúde dos profissionais da área policial.
Abstract: This study aimed to understand psychological aspects and risk factors that are involved in the ability to carry and use firearms in the police context. To this end, a synthesis of the literature was carried out through a narrative review. Handling a firearm is a skill that can be improved through training. However, several environmental, organizational and individual factors affect the ability to handle weapons, impacting on the performance of this skill throughout the police career. From a psychological point of view, a series of cognitive and emotional characteristics are considered relevant for the safe use of firearms. However, it is crucial to recognize other factors that are associated with risk and that can have a negative impact on the use of a weapon. It was evident that psychological aspects related to executive functions, emotions, stress, and mental health are strongly associated with performance with weapons, in addition to the technical skills acquired in training. Mental disorder is one of the most important risk factors that can lead to negative outcomes with firearms. The importance of police organizations promoting permanent prevention measures that include organizational support, psychological assessment and mental health care was highlighted, aiming at the well-being and health of police professionals.
